Transurethral Resection (TUR) (TURBT) is performed to treat various urinary problems because of an enlarged prostate. A resectoscope is inserted through the tip of the penis and the urethra. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder. With this tool, the physician is able to cut away excess tissue in the prostate that is blocking the flow of urine.
TURBT is an option for men that have moderate to severe urinary problems when medication does not work. TURBT is considered to be the most effective treatment for an enlarged prostate.
You and your physician will determine which treatment plan is best for you.
