Stipends - Academic Year 2024-2025

The rate of resident stipends at Western Reserve Hospital is determined by the postgraduate year level of training. Stipend rates for 2024-2025 year are as follows:

PGY -4  $     66,631.61
PGY -5 and above  $     68,331.25

Benefits & Resident Resources

This information is a summary of benefits available to residents. For candidates, you will receive a more detailed description of benefits upon acceptance of an invitation to interview with one of our residency programs. 

Medical and Dental/Vision insurance - several plan options are available to choose from at competitive rates. 

Malpractice/ liability insurance is carried on each resident by the hospital.

Life Insurance & 401(k) Profit Sharing are available to residents.

Short/Long Term Liability is available to residents.

Paid Time Off - 20 working days per year per approval of the program director (includes time off for illness, bereavement and vacation).

Caregiver Leave of Absence - Residents will be provided 100 percent of their salary for the first six weeks of the first approved medical, parental, or caregiver leave(s) of absence taken during a residency. Leaves of absence must meet qualifying reasons that are consistent with applicable laws, starting the day the resident is required to report. Resident training time may be extended to satisfy completion of the training program if time exceeds allowable leave or if competencies are not satisfied. 

Educational Allowance - Residents receive $1,500 per academic year for reimbursement of educational equipment, supplies and fees.

Board Preparation Allowance - Residents receive $1,000 for reimbursement of approved board preparation expenses. 

Educational Conferences - Residents are given 5 days of conference time each year for medical conventions and conferences outside the hospital. A travel allowance will be provided for required conferences, covering registration, hotel and airfare; all travel must be pre-approved to receive allowance. 

Life Support Certification Courses - The following courses will be provided at no cost to the resident based on the residency program; BLS, ACLS, ATLS. PALS is available if desired and may be reimburse through the education allowance.

Moonlighting - PGY-2 through PGY-5 residents may engage in moonlighting activities, restrictions apply.

Lab Coats - Up to 2 lab coats are provided each year.

Parking - Provided at no cost.

In-House Gym - weight lifting and cardio equipment on site. 

Resident Lounge - space exclusively for residents with sitting areas, work stations, lockers, refreshments & snacks, and large screen TV.
