Anna and Sam Weisend are a mother/daughter team of collaborative mixed media artists from Northeast Ohio.
Each brings their own brand of creativity to the table. Anna has a background in fiber arts and was an award winning sugar artist for 20 years. Sam has a degree in Studio Art and Print Making from University of Akron. They have been working collaboratively since 2018. Their work has been shown locally and has won multiple awards.
They work under the name of Seraphs & Salt Studio. The name was chosen because angels and salt are the two things rumored to combat demons and art helps them keep their own demons at bay.
Artists’ Statement
We find joy working as collaborative mixed media/assemblage artists. The collaboration forces us to always consider another viewpoint. It gives us infinite possibilities because we are able to draw from each other’s strengths and there are no limitations on what materials we may or may not use.
Our work starts with the discarded- we recycle paper into bowls which are then used as foundations or elements in our pieces. We then alter and add found objects with the belief that unwanted things still hold beauty in the right environment. The rest of our inspiration comes from nature.
We are currently exploring themes revolving around nests and hives.
