Sarah Treanor is an award-winning artist working out of Akron, Ohio. Her mixed media art is a combination of photography, encaustic wax, oil paint, pastel, and many other mediums. Creating art provides Sarah a space to explore her own life experiences and an ever-evolving relationship to the world around her. For Sarah, the process is both therapeutic and revealing… “My studio is sometimes the place I go to quiet my mind from everything else in life, while other times, it is the place I go to learn and unlearn. To heal and reveal.”
From a very young age, Sarah re-imagined her struggles through fantasy stories – both in the work of others and in the creation of her own.
“There is something I’ve always loved about a degree of fantasy that feels possible or relates to our true human experiences. I believe that blending the real with the fantasy provides us with a different vantage point of life. It creates a gateway to empower ourselves and others… a chance to transform negative inner stories into positive ones. A place to find wonder in the everyday.”
This blending of fantasy and reality gives a unique, otherworldly feel to her photo-based art – oftentimes challenging the viewer to question if the work is in fact a photograph or a painting.
Her passion is to tell her own stories in a way that captivates something within the viewer – connecting to a piece of their story and sparking a sense of wonder around it. She exhibits and sells her work online and around the country and can be found online via her website, streanor.com.
