Stephanie Stewart from Akron, OH, is an artist who tries to leave the world a little bit brighter. Her works are known to capture the strength and beauty of the Black American Woman and culture. Her preferred medium is acrylic but she does have a few pieces in mixed-media art as well. She specializes in hand-bound books and art journaling. She is the owner and artist of P31 Art & Design LLC - a fine art business with a studio space in Summit Artspace. She is a registered Teaching Artist with the Ohio Arts Council and is actively teaching workshops with local organizations for groups of all ages. Stewart recently received certification in deep listening and trauma-informed care. As an active member of the local art community, Stewart participates in activities and events hosted by several art groups, including the Women’s Art League, Akron Black Artist Guild, the Artists of Rubber City, ZineZone Akron Art Collab, and is co-founder of BE Arts Collective.

Stewart’s works have recently been juried into shows such as Summit Artspace Fresh 2023, Pancake & Booze Cincinnati, Women’s Art League Annual Shows, and the Cleveland State University’s People’s Art Show 2022, Summa Hospital Art Gallery Black Artist Show, Weathervane Theatre, and the East Ave Gallery.

Stewart has had public art installations in Waterloo Arts District in Cleveland, OH; Slavic Village - Rooms to Let, Cleveland, OH and the City of Akron’s Kerr Park. Stewart’s works have been spotlighted in solo exhibitions at the Artists of Rubber City Box Gallery in April 2023, October 2023 Summit Historical Society’s John Brown House, and 2024 Evelyn’s Coffee Shop, Akron Black Artists Guild Outline in Black, Women’s Art League 3M Exhibition. Latest teaching engagements include On the Drying Rack and residencies with Akron Public Schools, Akron Secondary Academy, Akron Summit County Library - Maple Valley Branch, and Summit Metroparks Art in the Park Initiatives. Stewart’s practice reflects the belief that the gift of creativity is within all of us, so it is her mission to get together and share it, nurture it, and cultivate it!
