Akron business owner and Miller South alum Louise Bane started her artistic journey with a love for sculpture. After school, Louise took a detour to help run her family auto business. In the last twelve years, she has used her sculptural skill and passion for baking to solely operate a thriving custom cake business. She is happy to now return to her first love of fine art.
Louise’s recent body of art uses the senses to explore emotion through life-size bas reliefs on canvas. She casts real body parts of herself and other subjects in plaster cast. She then affixes the completed casts to canvas to capture movement and moments in time. Color is an important element that adds emphasis to her pieces. Her art is often reflective in nature, capturing those quiet instances of introspection. This series focuses on healing. Oftentimes our bodies may seem to fail us or act differently than we want them to. Her goal is to offer hope and remind us that no matter the condition our bodies are in, we are all a part of one human family.
Louise stays active in the local arts scene. She is a member of the Black Artist Guild, a participant of Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance’s First Friday’s and co-director of the East Avenue Market & Gallery. She most looks forward to continuing to develop and further her artworks, spending time with family and for collaborations with other community-focused organizations in the area.
