About the Art
Deborah Shapiro is a collage artist who creates works from bits of magazine paper - no paint is used.Originals are on stretched canvas and coated with clear acrylic and a polymer varnish for UV protection.
Her style weaves a sense of realism with the subject and a sense of abstraction throughout the details. Her favorite subjects reflect her love for animals, nature, and common everyday experiences.
About the Artist
Deborah started creating art later in life after 35 years as a corporate and broadcast videographer. During her recovery from a jaw surgery in 2013, Deborah’s mother gave her magazines to keep her busy and Deborah began to rip them up to use in art. Since then, she has sold her artwork throughout the U.S, Canada, and Europe and teaches classes online and in-person. She has also been featured on PBS, New Day Cleveland, Golden Opportunities, and in a mini-documentary shown in Turkey. She resides in Bath, Ohio with her husband, a dog, and a couple of very old cats.
