Many things describe who I am, but simply, I am a lover of nature. I have been fascinated by it my whole life. All my art reflects it. I strive in every piece I make to mirror the beauty around me.
For years I have been working on what makes my art me. I have been collecting beach glass for over eight years and didn’t have any plans for what to do with it. Beach glass is essentially trash, discarded items and shipwrecks found on the beach. The glass gets
broken and tumbled by the wave action of any ocean, sea or large lake, such as Lake Erie, where I get all of my glass from. I have seen basic mosaics done with beach glass but wanted to try something different for my art. So playing around and testing techniques, I decided to add glass on top of my paintings with resin. This became an epiphany. I loved it, loved how it looked, loved the effect, and knew I had to do more. I also decided early on that since all my glass is recycled, my wood would be as well. Every piece of wood I use is reclaimed: pallet, barn wood, old fencing and fallen trees. I have been perfecting this technique over the past few years. Sea turtles became my main focus once I came back from Hawaii. Seeing them in person, they quickly became my favorite animal.
Painting them brings me so much joy. I love their personalities and their coloring. I now paint sea turtles on just about anything. Beach glass lends itself to sea creatures, but I do love painting different animals and other aspects of nature.
