Arthritis Education for Seniors

Many older adults, especially those over 50, have arthritis in their hands that can make common tasks difficult or impossible.

Arthritis causes damage in the joints, or places in the body where two bones meet. Some joints naturally wear down with age and many people develop arthritis after lifelong wear and tear. Some types of arthritis arise after injuries to a joint, but certain health conditions can also cause arthritis.

Kimberly Freborg, OTR/L, Occupational Therapy, spoke to 75 Hudson seniors in August about the basics of arthritis, trigger finger, and exercises that can help relieve any pain often associated with the joints.

She showed the audience numerous gadgets that can assist with things like cutting, opening jars, writing and more. This important information and knowledge of available tools helps seniors and those with arthritis learn to cope and adapt.
